On your journey to make any team you join better, you¡¯ll practice
excellent behaviors that enhance your teamwork.
This week, we'll ask you to think about the purpose of your play. With
the
Polis trophy, rare leaderboard achievements, and peer
endorsements all in the mix, how will you decide where to put your
focus? Will your team pull in the same direction?
Be sure to check out the
Synthesis Mission Brief
for more details about this week's challenge.
Have you talked with your family about your plans for completing your
portfolio, the game above the game? Be sure to check your

You¡¯ve been around Synthesis Teams long enough to know that good
communication means more than just talking to your teammates.
It¡¯s about being thoughtful in the
way we communicate: using
teammates¡¯ names, being clear and specific, and asking clarifying
questions. It¡¯s about speaking up
and responding to others.
This month, we¡¯ll take a closer look at these important aspects of
teamwork as we examine your
productive communication skills.
Mabel, here's what we observed about your teamwork skills during Play: You demonstrate strong communication abilities, particularly in fostering a positive atmosphere for your teammates. Your frequent affirmations like, "Yes, yes, yes," and motivating phrases such as, "It's okay, team. That was good," contribute significantly to team morale and support. It¡¯s clear you care about your teammates' feelings and their involvement. As a suggestion for continued growth, consider focusing on providing more specific instructions and elaborate suggestions during discussions, such as saying, "Let's move to the left to avoid the obstacle" instead of simply "Go away." Why is this important? More specific communication not only clarifies your thoughts but also enhances overall team understanding. Keep practicing these techniques, Mabel; you're doing great!
Observations based on your participation in Play sessions in 3
of the past 4 weeks.
On your journey to make any team you join better, you¡¯ll practice how to
effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion sessions are
carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these
critical communication skills in various ways.
Last week's theme was
"Right of Way."
Making decisions is easier when one option is bad, or wrong, or
unethical. It¡¯s much harder when both options are good, and right, and
ethical. In that case, how do we decide between two noble paths?
No right or wrong answers; just interesting conversations with kids from
around the world.
Communication in Discussions sessions
Mabel's % of time speaking average each session.
Reflection for Mabel: How does your voice % compare to
the average?
You show great competence in engaging with your teammates, particularly through your thoughtful contributions such as, "I think maybe send a text message," which demonstrates your ability to think critically. Additionally, you acknowledge your peers with affirmations like, "Yeah, about sincerity." However, to keep developing your communication skills, you might consider elaborating more on your thoughts, as some of your responses are lengthy and could lose others' attention. For instance, incorporating your teammates' names or inviting them to share their ideas can strengthen the collaborative spirit. This will not only personalize your communication but also encourage a more back-and-forth flow in conversation. Keep focusing on these areas, and you will continue to grow wonderfully in your discussions!
Anyone who¡¯s on the path toward becoming a Supercollaborator is able to
keep improving their skills and making course corrections. We look
forward to seeing you at future Play + Discussion sessions, and we¡¯ll
continue giving you feedback on your teamwork and communication skills.
