You've been around Synthesis Teams for a while, so you know that good teamwork means more than just participating in the game and communicating with your teammates.
It involves cooperative planning, coordinating roles, and shared decision-making. It's about including everyone and checking in on progress toward the team's goals.
This month, we'll take a closer look at these important aspects of teamwork as we examine your
goal-oriented collaboration skills.
Dorathy, here's what we observed about your teamwork skills during play: You excel in fostering a positive, encouraging atmosphere, consistently affirming your teammates with phrases like, "We should unite, but let's do it fast." This motivation is a vital part of teamwork as it keeps everyone focused on achieving collective goals. Your willingness to contribute, for example by saying, "I'm going to bring some batteries to the right side," demonstrates a readiness to engage with the team's objectives. One way to grow even more is by participating more in strategic planning and role assignment. By offering specific suggestions or proactively defining roles, you could help guide your team toward success. Why does this matter? It enhances your ability to collaborate effectively, making the group's efforts more cohesive and strategic. Keep up the positive encouragement, and consider exploring ways to deepen your impact through more detailed participation!
Observations based on your participation in Play sessions in 3 of the past 4 weeks.
On your journey to make any team you join better, you'll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways.
Last week's theme was
"I, Robot,"
inspired by Isaac Asimov's 1950 book. The premise: robots must follow rules to protect humans and themselves. The problem: sometimes, robots get confused. Each scenario this week imagines an ethical decision around robot-human relations. Of course, there are no right or wrong answers. It's just science fiction. For now.

Reflection for Dorathy: What does balanced communication look like?
Dorathy, here¡¯s what we noticed about your communication during last week¡¯s Discussion session: One thing you did especially well was clarifying the topic of discussion by asking insightful questions like, "What if the group doesn't hurt and just one person hurt?" and then you also added your own idea to the discussion in saying, "I think I would help the child if they were hurt first, and not the group." These actions demonstrate that you¡¯re attentive and interested in the group's work. To keep building your skills, try to make sure your comments connect directly to what your teammates are discussing, which will help support a smooth and coherent conversation. Engaging more consistently in the conversation will help your voice and thoughts be even more influential in the group!
Anyone who's on the path toward becoming a Supercollaborator is able to keep improving their skills and making course corrections. We look forward to seeing you at future Play + Discussion sessions, and we'll continue giving you feedback on your teamwork and communication skills.
