Monthly Feedback Report for Evan
It's
Hyperball time, and this week, the maps are intentionally
unfair. When your team has the advantage, will you become complacent? When your team is at a disadvantage, can you work as a group to overcome adversity¡ªand will that give you the best chance to grow?

You¡¯ve been around Synthesis Teams long enough to know that good
communication means more than just talking to your teammates.
It¡¯s about being thoughtful in the
way we communicate: using
teammates¡¯ names, being clear and specific, and asking clarifying
questions. It¡¯s about speaking up
and responding to others.
This month, we¡¯ll take a closer look at these important aspects of
teamwork as we examine your
productive communication skills.
Evan, here's what we observed about your teamwork skills during Play: You showed great strength in focusing on strategic planning and role assignment, as noted by your clear directives like "Green team takes the top and right, Purple team takes the bottom and the left." Your ability to set priorities and encourage teammates with motivational remarks, such as, "Go as fast as possible," demonstrates your enthusiasm and urgency toward achieving collective goals. One way to grow even more is to enhance your shared decision-making by inviting more input from your teammates. Phrases like "I'm going for this planet," without seeking teammates' opinions suggest opportunities to encourage more collaborative dialogue. Why is this important? Encouraging shared decision-making can ensure that all team members feel valued and contribute to the success of the team together. Keep up your great work in leading your peers, and remember that teamwork flourishes when everyone gets a chance to share their thoughts!
Observations based on your participation in Play sessions in 3 of the past 4 weeks.
On your journey to make any team you join better, you'll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways.
Last week's theme was
"Look on the Bright Side?" Students explored the trade-offs between optimism (a focus on potential benefits) and pessimism (a focus on potential problems). Because life has both rewards and setbacks, it¡¯s important for students to be aware enough ¡ª and agile enough ¡ª to look through each perspective when needed.
No right or wrong answers. Just interesting conversations with kids from around the world.

Reflection for Evan: What does balanced communication look like?
Evan, here¡¯s what we noticed about your communication during last week¡¯s Discussion session: One thing you did especially well was sharing thoughtful ideas that really helped everyone understand your points better, like when you said, "I think optimistic because like, pessimistic is kind of like really stressful." This clarity makes it easier for everyone to follow along. Another great thing we saw was your way of backing up teammates' ideas with supportive responses like "Yep," which made the group feel more united. To keep building your skills, you might try using your teammates¡¯ names more often when you agree with them, which can strengthen your connection with everyone. Keep up the great work, and with these small steps, you'll be an even stronger communicator!
Anyone who's on the path toward becoming a Supercollaborator is able to keep improving their skills and making course corrections. We look forward to seeing you at future Play + Discussion sessions, and we'll continue giving you feedback on your teamwork and communication skills.
