Monthly Feedback Report for Wei
It's
Hyperball time, and this week, the maps are intentionally
unfair. When your team has the advantage, will you become complacent? When your team is at a disadvantage, can you work as a group to overcome adversity¡ªand will that give you the best chance to grow?

You¡¯ve been around Synthesis Teams long enough to know that good
communication means more than just talking to your teammates.
It¡¯s about being thoughtful in the
way we communicate: using
teammates¡¯ names, being clear and specific, and asking clarifying
questions. It¡¯s about speaking up
and responding to others.
This month, we¡¯ll take a closer look at these important aspects of
teamwork as we examine your
productive communication skills.
Wei, here's what we observed about your teamwork skills during Play: You have demonstrated strong abilities in goal-oriented collaboration, particularly with your strategic planning and focus on game objectives. For instance, your suggestion, ¡°Let¡¯s get the small planets,¡± and emphasis on resource management with, ¡°We need to get a planet quick,¡± highlight your strategic thinking and determination to guide the team towards achieving common goals. One thing you did really well was offering solutions and helping your teammates prioritize tasks, which demonstrates your understanding of aligning team efforts to collective objectives. A next step could be enhancing your adaptability and openness to seeking teammate input during strategic discussions. While you often take initiative and offer valuable insights, inviting more feedback from your teammates can foster a more inclusive team atmosphere and ensure everyone¡¯s ideas contribute to refining strategies. Why does this matter? Because collaboration is most effective when everyone feels their contributions are valued, which can lead to even better team success! Keep up the great work, and consider how you can involve your teammates more in shaping strategies.
Observations based on your participation in Play sessions in 3 of the past 4 weeks.
On your journey to make any team you join better, you'll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways.
Last week's theme was
"Look on the Bright Side?" Students explored the trade-offs between optimism (a focus on potential benefits) and pessimism (a focus on potential problems). Because life has both rewards and setbacks, it¡¯s important for students to be aware enough ¡ª and agile enough ¡ª to look through each perspective when needed.
No right or wrong answers. Just interesting conversations with kids from around the world.

Reflection for Wei: What does balanced communication look like?
Wei, here¡¯s what we noticed about your communication during last week¡¯s Discussion session: One thing you did especially well was articulating your ideas clearly and substantively, as shown when you said, ¡°Optimistic. It can not only help you if you get a bigger reward, it also lets you learn how an investment works.¡± Your strong reasoning skills were also evident when you discussed the impact of optimism and pessimism. Another great thing was your ability to keep the conversation flowing by expanding on topics, such as when you mentioned, ¡°Leadership is all about communicating to each other and everybody helping each other.¡± To keep building your skills, you might try acknowledging your teammates more directly by using their names, which can help create a stronger connection and make everyone feel more included.
Anyone who's on the path toward becoming a Supercollaborator is able to keep improving their skills and making course corrections. We look forward to seeing you at future Play + Discussion sessions, and we'll continue giving you feedback on your teamwork and communication skills.
