TEAMWORK METRICS

It's Hyperball time, and this week, the maps are intentionally unfair. When your team has the advantage, will you become complacent? When your team is at a disadvantage, can you work as a group to overcome adversity¡ªand will that give you the best chance to grow?

Be sure to check out the Synthesis Mission Brief for more details.

TEAMWORK ANALYSIS

You¡¯ve been around Synthesis Teams long enough to know that good communication means more than just talking to your teammates.

It¡¯s about being thoughtful in the way we communicate: using teammates¡¯ names, being clear and specific, and asking clarifying questions. It¡¯s about speaking up and responding to others.

This month, we¡¯ll take a closer look at these important aspects of teamwork as we examine your productive communication skills.

Zunqi, here's what we observed about your teamwork skills during Play: You show a remarkable ability to focus on goal completion and resource management, highlighted by strategic comments like, "Guys, try to get more yield," and suggestions like ¡°Okay, we can buy satellites. We should only buy two,¡± indicating a proactive approach to task management. You often volunteer for tasks and take initiative in your role assignments, exemplified by statements like "I'll do the Dolphins," and "I'll get the Rays and the Foxes," which show your willingness to take responsibility. A next step could be to enhance your shared decision-making by involving your teammates more, which can be as simple as asking, ¡°What do you think about this plan?¡± or encouraging others to share their ideas. How does this contribute to effective teamwork? It builds a team environment where everyone feels their input is valued, leading to stronger, more cohesive strategies. Keep up your dedication to improving strategies and remember that collaboration thrives when everyone¡¯s voice is heard.

Observations based on your participation in Play sessions in 3 of the past 4 weeks.

COMMUNICATION METRICS

On your journey to make any team you join better, you'll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways.

Last week's theme was "Look on the Bright Side?" Students explored the trade-offs between optimism (a focus on potential benefits) and pessimism (a focus on potential problems). Because life has both rewards and setbacks, it¡¯s important for students to be aware enough ¡ª and agile enough ¡ª to look through each perspective when needed.

No right or wrong answers. Just interesting conversations with kids from around the world.

Reflection for Zunqi: What does balanced communication look like?

COMMUNICATION ANALYSIS

Zunqi, here¡¯s what we noticed about your communication during last week¡¯s Discussion session: One thing you did especially well was elaborating on your ideas, as shown when you said, ¡°I think it¡¯s only a part of your savings and it has some risk but I think it¡¯s worth it,¡± which demonstrates your ability to contribute meaningfully to discussions. Another great thing we saw was your efforts to engage with your teammates' perspectives, like when you asked, ¡°So [teammate], are you saying you're optimistic or pessimistic?¡± which shows you're interested in others' views and promotes a lively conversation. One way to keep improving your communication is to acknowledge your teammates by name more often and respond directly to their comments, which will encourage even more interaction and inclusivity within the group. Keep up the great work!

Anyone who's on the path toward becoming a Supercollaborator is able to keep improving their skills and making course corrections. We look forward to seeing you at future Play + Discussion sessions, and we'll continue giving you feedback on your teamwork and communication skills.
