TEAMWORK METRICS

It's Hyperball time, and this week, the maps are intentionally unfair. When your team has the advantage, will you become complacent? When your team is at a disadvantage, can you work as a group to overcome adversity¡ªand will that give you the best chance to grow?

Be sure to check out the Synthesis Mission Brief for more details.

TEAMWORK ANALYSIS

You¡¯ve been around Synthesis Teams long enough to know that good communication means more than just talking to your teammates.

It¡¯s about being thoughtful in the way we communicate: using teammates¡¯ names, being clear and specific, and asking clarifying questions. It¡¯s about speaking up and responding to others.

This month, we¡¯ll take a closer look at these important aspects of teamwork as we examine your productive communication skills.

Lufei, here's what we observed about your teamwork skills during the play: One thing you did especially well was directing action and showing initiative, as seen when you said, "Green, get the bottom and also the left and then purple get the top." This highlights your strength in assigning roles and guiding your team toward common goals. Another great thing we noticed was your effort in focusing on mutual success, like when you reminded your teammates, "Remember it's like each other, okay? Each other." This shows your understanding of the importance of working collaboratively to achieve shared objectives. One way to grow even more is to engage more consistently in strategic planning and role assignment to enhance your team's overall effectiveness. Asking for teammates' feedback or suggestions more explicitly, such as asking, "How do you think we should move forward?" could help in refining strategies and ensuring everyone understands their roles. Why does this matter? Clear plans and role clarity empower everyone to contribute their best, making teamwork more cohesive and successful. Keep up the great enthusiasm and strategic skills, and with a bit more practice in these areas, your collaborative efforts will have an even bigger impact!

Observations based on your participation in Play sessions in 3 of the past 4 weeks.

COMMUNICATION METRICS

On your journey to make any team you join better, you'll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways.

Last week's theme was "Look on the Bright Side?" Students explored the trade-offs between optimism (a focus on potential benefits) and pessimism (a focus on potential problems). Because life has both rewards and setbacks, it¡¯s important for students to be aware enough ¡ª and agile enough ¡ª to look through each perspective when needed.

No right or wrong answers. Just interesting conversations with kids from around the world.

Reflection for Lufei: What does balanced communication look like?

COMMUNICATION ANALYSIS

Lufei, here¡¯s what we noticed about your communication during last week¡¯s Discussion session: One thing you did especially well was engaging actively with your teammates and encouraging a balanced exchange of ideas, like when you asked, "What perspective do you take on this scenario? Why?" These questions show your interest in understanding everyone's viewpoints. Another great thing we saw was how you acknowledged your teammates' contributions, such as when you responded with, "Oh, really?" which showed you were listening and valuing their input. To keep building your skills, you might try focusing on reducing repeated thoughts to keep discussions fresh and dynamic. This way, you can make sure every part of the conversation adds new insights. Keep up the fantastic work!

Anyone who's on the path toward becoming a Supercollaborator is able to keep improving their skills and making course corrections. We look forward to seeing you at future Play + Discussion sessions, and we'll continue giving you feedback on your teamwork and communication skills.
