TEAMWORK METRICS

This week's purpose for play is to define success. This is more than just setting a goal ¡ª it's setting priorities. To make it more complicated, we've linked three separate achievements to three separate definitions of success: 1) Victory ¡ª win five games in a row; 2) Teamwork ¡ª use your energy to support newer players; 3) Individual growth ¡ª evaluate your progress compared to starting Synthesis. Success can mean different things to different people, but it starts by defining its shape.

TEAMWORK ANALYSIS

You¡¯ve been around Synthesis Teams for a while, so you know that good teamwork means more than just participating in the game and communicating with your teammates.

It involves cooperative planning, coordinating roles, and shared decision-making. It¡¯s about including everyone and checking in on progress toward the team¡¯s goals.

This month, we¡¯ll take a closer look at these important aspects of teamwork as we examine your goal-oriented collaboration skills.

Zunqi, here's what we observed about your teamwork skills during play: One thing you did especially well was showing initiative in strategic planning and maintaining focus on your team's goals. You often provided direction to your team, like when you mentioned, "Guys, we need a plan," and encouraged quick decisions with, "Put the ball here!" Your ability to keep the team focused and aligned on objectives is a key strength in goal-oriented collaboration. A next step could be working on integrating your strategic ideas with your teammates' input more regularly. Encouraging a more open dialogue and asking for their thoughts, such as, "What do you think we should focus on next?" can ensure all voices are heard and help create shared goals. Why is this important? Engaging your teammates in planning not only strengthens the team's strategy but also fosters a stronger sense of unity and cooperation, making your team even more successful. Keep up the great work, and remember that teamwork is all about growing together!

COMMUNICATION METRICS

On your journey to make any team you join better, you'll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways.

Last week's theme was "Who Am I?" ¡®Role conflict¡¯ is the struggle of balancing competing responsibilities. Imagine being a teammate obligated to practice while your sibling needs urgent help, or choosing between your lead role in a school play and supporting a global cause. These moments force our students to confront priorities, understand trade-offs, and develop empathy. We explored six scenarios that forced students to ask ¡°Who Am I?¡± ¡ª but more importantly, Why?

COMMUNICATION ANALYSIS

Zunqi, here¡¯s what we noticed about your communication during last week¡¯s Discussion session: One thing you did especially well was engaging with your teammates and supporting the conversation with affirmations and acknowledging details such as, "So that's the rules in the competition." Additionally, your thoughtful questions, such as ¡°Is there a way to address the mistake without hurting your friendship?¡± show that you are open and considerate of others' perspectives. To keep building your skills, you might try offering more original ideas or deeper insights on the topics discussed. For instance, when agreeing with teammates, you could add more about why you agree or introduce a related idea to explore further. This could make your contributions even more impactful and help steer the conversation in exciting new directions.

Anyone who's on the path toward becoming a Supercollaborator is able to keep improving their skills and making course corrections. We look forward to seeing you at future Play + Discussion sessions, and we'll continue giving you feedback on your teamwork and communication skills.
