TEAMWORK METRICS

Decisions have consequences. That¡¯s easy to understand. What¡¯s harder is anticipating and responding to the consequences that are more hidden. This week, Proxima scenarios will include ¡°hidden benefits¡± ¡ª but are they worth the cost of investigation? It¡¯s something teams will have to navigate and discuss.

Be sure to check out the Teams Mission Brief for more details.

TEAMWORK ANALYSIS

You¡¯ve been around Synthesis Teams for a while, so you know that good teamwork means more than just participating in the game and communicating with your teammates.

It involves cooperative planning, coordinating roles, and shared decision-making. It¡¯s about including everyone and checking in on progress toward the team¡¯s goals.

This month, we¡¯ll take a closer look at these important aspects of teamwork as we examine your goal-oriented collaboration skills.

Cindy, here's what we observed about your teamwork skills during recent game sessions: One thing you did especially well was showing a positive attitude that bolstered team morale, like when you said "Yeah, the little parts," or expressed gratitude with "Thank you." Your willingness to take responsibility, as seen with the comment "This is all my fault. Don¡¯t use us," demonstrates your openness and potential for growth in strategic planning. A next step could be developing your involvement in strategic decision-making and role assignments in games. By consistently proposing more specific strategies and actions, you can enhance your leadership within the team. Why is this important? Because participating actively in strategy helps direct the team towards success and allows everyone to work more efficiently towards a shared goal. Keep up the positivity and continue to explore ways to lead and engage strategically with your teammates.

COMMUNICATION METRICS

On your journey to make any team you join better, you'll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways.

Last week's theme was "Supercollaborator Training." To graduate as a Supercollaborator is the highest honor at Synthesis. After a final interview, students receive a personal letter of recommendation from our co-founders to bring to any job interview or school application. It¡¯s not easy ¡ª consider it a black belt in collaborative problem-solving. Last week was a training session: six scenarios from the world of Synthesis. How would a supercollaborator work through them?

No right or wrong answers; just interesting conversations with kids from around the world.

COMMUNICATION ANALYSIS

Cindy, here¡¯s what we noticed about your communication during last week¡¯s Discussion session: One thing you did especially well was asking questions that kept everyone involved, like when you asked, "Who wants to read it?" This shows your ability to engage your teammates and keep the conversation on track. Another great strength is your clear and thoughtful expression of ideas, such as when you said, "I will use number 2" and "Let team to do their strategy even if they result in a loss because...," which helps bring diverse perspectives to the discussion. To keep building your skills, you might try using your teammates¡¯ names more often in conversation to show you¡¯re listening and make everyone feel included. This small addition could help make your group discussions even more collaborative and connected!

Anyone who's on the path toward becoming a Supercollaborator is able to keep improving their skills and making course corrections. We look forward to seeing you at future sessions, and we'll continue giving you feedback on your teamwork and communication skills.
