Hi Lufei,

On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Last week, our student-led Discussion sessions asked you to assemble a team from a pool of talented candidates. Each scenario presented a unique set of roles crucial to the company's success, but there was a catch - you could only hire a limited number. Each decision came with consequences, prompting you to reconsider your choices. This session asked you to make thoughtful decisions on policies regarding employee satisfaction and remote work policies. You were introduced to the actual challenges that companies such as Best Buy and Goldman Sachs have encountered. How did your choices compare to the solutions implemented by these real-world companies?

Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended last week:

Communication Analysis
Lufei, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.

In terms of active listening, you actively engage and respond thoughtfully to your teammates' contributions. You show a genuine interest in what others have to say and build upon their ideas. Your active listening skills create meaningful exchanges within the discussion. We observed this when you said, "Yeah, we should choose that one," in response to a teammate's statement. Your response demonstrates your engagement with their comment and your willingness to acknowledge their viewpoint.

Lastly, we appreciate your display of empathy and perspective-taking. You actively listen to others, respond with understanding and consideration, and acknowledge different viewpoints. Your empathy contributes to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment within the discussion. We encourage you to continue promoting perspective-taking and creating a collaborative atmosphere.

However, we encourage you to more actively participate and communicate with your team in upcoming Discussion sessions so that we are able to provide you with insights about your communication skills. If you are unsure what to say, we would encourage you to ask your teammates questions to learn more about how they voted and what they think. You could also volunteer to read some of the slides aloud for your team.

In conclusion, Lufei, your communication skills in terms of active listening and empathy are commendable. However, focusing on increasing your participation will help you improve your communication skills. Keep up the good work and continue to actively engage with your teammates while promoting an inclusive and understanding environment.
Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. After reading your feedback, come up with 1 main, specific goal of how you¡¯ll improve your communication in this week's Discussion Sessions. Feel free to reply to this email and let us know what that goal is. This week, you will be asked to rank various options based on an analysis of the costs and benefits of 5 scenarios. If you attend, we¡¯ll give you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice after incorporating this email¡¯s insights.
