Hi Lufei,

On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Last week, the session introduced students to five scenarios asking students to rank various options based on one specific cost. Then, in the second half of the session, students add in the relative benefits of each option to practice making holistic decisions based an analysis of costs and benefits.

Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
Lufei, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.

In terms of clarity and conciseness, it seems that sometimes your contributions lack a clear connection to the discussion. For example, when you asked "A lot of American people like to play football, is that true?" it drifted away from the session's goals. It's important to ensure that your comments stay focused on the topic at hand to keep the discussion moving forward.

Empathy and perspective-taking are important aspects of effective communication, and we noticed that you displayed moments of empathy in the sessions. For instance, you bonded with another teammate when they expressed that they wanted to be an explorer and said, "You want to be an explorer? How about I join you?" This demonstrates your ability to understand and banter with other teammates. It is important to relate to your teammates to have engaging conversations and you made it easy for others to talk to you.

Finally, one area where you could improve is in asking effective questions. We noticed that you participated more by providing suggestions and opinions rather than seeking further information or clarification through questioning. Asking questions can help deepen the conversation and encourage others to share their thoughts. It would be beneficial for you to incorporate more open-ended and probing questions to foster a more detailed discussion.

Overall, you have shown strengths in empathy and perspective-taking, while there is room for growth in effective questioning and providing more detailed responses on topic. By continuing to actively engage with your teammates, asking thought-provoking questions, and sharing more information in your responses, you can enhance your communication skills even further. Keep up the good work, Lufei!
Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. After reading your feedback, come up with 1 main, specific goal of how you¡¯ll improve your communication in this week's Discussion Sessions. Feel free to reply to this email and let us know what that goal is. This week, you will be asked to compare and contrast the diverse options of three different scenarios in order to practice identifying and evaluating the underlying commonalities between each choice. If you attend, we¡¯ll give you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice after incorporating this email¡¯s insights.

If your parent or guardian has any thoughts on this email, tell them they can fill out this 1-minute survey to keep on improving our session feedback.
