Hi Wei,

On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Last week, the session introduced students to five scenarios asking students to rank various options based on one specific cost. Then, in the second half of the session, students add in the relative benefits of each option to practice making holistic decisions based an analysis of costs and benefits.

Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
Wei, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.

You demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and concisely. When stating your opinions, you speak with clarity on what you think and feel. However, there are instances where you go off-topic or repeat yourself, making the communication slightly less concise. Overall, though, your communication is clear and easy to understand.

You also exhibited strengths in empathy by acknowledging and appreciating your peers' contributions. You create a positive and inclusive environment by thanking other participants after their contributions. For example, when you introduced yourself and invited others to introduce themselves, you said, "That's nice. You're a storyteller. What about you guys?" This initiative and appreciation creates an inviting space to open discussions.

Your questioning skills demonstrate some effectiveness in fostering conversation and analysis. Your relevant and insightful questions encourage dialogue and invite others to share their ideas. For instance, you asked, "Is skydiving safe or is it risky?" This was a good starter question. To develop this skill further, try to be specific and purposeful with your questions. This will help guide the conversation and lead to more meaningful discussions. For instance, instead of a vague question like "What do you think?", try asking something more targeted like "Are we missing anything here?" or "What are the trade-offs?"

Keep up the good work in communicating clearly and concisely! Additionally, challenge yourself to ask more specific and thought-provoking questions to invite deeper conversations. Lastly, continue showing empathy and perspective-taking skills to foster a supportive and inclusive environment. Great job, Wei!
Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. After reading your feedback, come up with 1 main, specific goal of how you¡¯ll improve your communication in this week's Discussion Sessions. Feel free to reply to this email and let us know what that goal is. This week, you will be asked to compare and contrast the diverse options of three different scenarios in order to practice identifying and evaluating the underlying commonalities between each choice. If you attend, we¡¯ll give you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice after incorporating this email¡¯s insights.

If your parent or guardian has any thoughts on this email, tell them they can fill out this 1-minute survey to keep on improving our session feedback.
