Hi Martin,

On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Last week, the session introduced students to five scenarios asking students to rank various options based on one specific cost. Then, in the second half of the session, students add in the relative benefits of each option to practice making holistic decisions based an analysis of costs and benefits.

Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
Martin, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.

In terms of active listening, you actively participate in the conversation and respond to others' comments with enthusiasm and engagement. An example of that is when you responded to a teammate's comments and built on it, saying, "Well, I think driving is more dangerous." However, it seems that you can be easily distracted or sidetracked, which hinders your ability to fully listen and respond thoughtfully.

When it comes to clarity and conciseness, you occasionally struggle to communicate in a clear and concise manner. There are instances where you provide irrelevant information, making it challenging for others to understand your points or intentions. For example, when discussing the safety of skydiving, you mentioned, "I have jumped from a building before, so I think sky jumping isn't that dangerous. I haven't broken a thing. I can still do a skibby dance." While your enthusiasm is evident, the inclusion of unrelated information detracts from the clarity of your point.

In terms of effective questioning, there is room for improvement. You tend to ask random or unrelated questions, which can disrupt the flow of the conversation. It would be beneficial for you to work on asking relevant and thought-provoking questions that contribute to the overall discussion. This way, you can help maintain the focus and engage others more effectively.

Keep up the enthusiasm and engagement, but also work on being more concise in your communication, improving your active listening skills, asking relevant questions!
Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. After reading your feedback, come up with 1 main, specific goal of how you¡¯ll improve your communication in this week's Discussion Sessions. Feel free to reply to this email and let us know what that goal is. This week, you will be asked to compare and contrast the diverse options of three different scenarios in order to practice identifying and evaluating the underlying commonalities between each choice. If you attend, we¡¯ll give you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice after incorporating this email¡¯s insights.

If your parent or guardian has any thoughts on this email, tell them they can fill out this 1-minute survey to keep on improving our session feedback.
