Hi Charley,
On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion Sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways. Last week, you stepped into the shoes of decision-makers in science, environmental policy, urban development. You were faced with tough choices in which all of the options were bad. How did you decide which option does the least harm?
Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
Charley, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.
In your approach to expressing your thoughts, you demonstrate a capacity to articulate relevant points, as shown when you noted, "Sometimes in the old people's place [a geriatric home], they did save people, but after they saved a few years, then they died." This storytelling technique helps to ground the discussion in real-life context. You also shared a personal experience that was directly related to the topic when you said, "One time at the playground I was up . . . about one meter and then a not friendly guy pushed me and then I just felt the ground my left arm is broken and then I [had to] go to the emergency and it was painful." As seen in this positive example, you seem to present complex situations well and to bring out points that others might not have considered.
Your responsiveness to your peers' comments, such as agreeing with a simple "Yeah," indicates you are actively engaged with their ideas. To deepen this engagement, we recommend building on what your teammates have shared before contributing your own thoughts. In earlier sessions, you've asked questions that encouraged critical thinking, like "But will you need or feel uncomfortable or embarrassed in a situation?" Continuing to skillfully use open-ended questions will help maintain a dynamic and exploratory conversation.
Your empathetic approach is seen when you consider the financial impacts on others: "That farm broke. I think it cost $1,020 more." This shows you can relate to and understand your peers' experiences. Moving forward, to fully harness your empathy, directly expressing concern and acknowledgement of others' viewpoints could further enrich the discussion. While you've shown an understanding of the importance of perspective-taking in prior sessions, incorporating this regularly in your dialogue would demonstrate even greater empathy for your peers' diverse standpoints.
Charley, we are very pleased with your active participation and your engagement with the Discussion topics. We're also pleased to see your continued progress. Keep up the good work!
Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. We look forward to seeing you at future Discussion Sessions and we¡¯ll continue giving you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice.
