Hi Yan,

On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion Sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways. Last week, you stepped into the shoes of decision-makers in science, environmental policy, urban development. You were faced with tough choices in which all of the options were bad. How did you decide which option does the least harm?

Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
Yan, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.

In terms of expressing your thoughts clearly and getting to the point, we noted that you are engaging but could further develop these areas. Your statements display willingness to participate but could use more detail to accurately convey your message. Additionally, while you make attempts to suggest ideas like "Maybe... I would cut pediatric care...", these would be more impactful with greater precision and elaboration to convey your thoughts comprehensively.

Regarding your ability to stay engaged with your teammates' ideas and build upon them, there's evidence you are listening and reacting to the group's dialogue. An instance that illustrates this is when you said, "I think maybe I won't cut the Mars exploration but the first.... I think the exploration is not that important right about now" You are engaging with your peer's ideas and adding to the conversation; however, the connections you are making could be clearer by elaborating on why you think the Mars exploration is not important. This engagement is a positive step and shows you are attuned to the discussion's direction. We also noticed that compared to the previous week where your involvement was minimal, your active contributions have improved. Still, we encourage you to expand on your utterances and ideas to gain full benefit from these interactive opportunities.

From the sessions, we note a small glimpse of empathetic responses. However, we believe that by purposefully integrating your peers' emotions and insights into the conversation, your empathic skills can shine more brightly. Overall, your progress from limited participation to more active involvement is commendable, and continuing to build on that momentum by developing your expression and inquiry skills will enhance your communication even further.

Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. We look forward to seeing you at future Discussion Sessions and we¡¯ll continue giving you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice.
