Hi Evan,

On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion Sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways. Last week, you discussed the central conflict of altruism: balancing self-interest with the greater good. How far should you go to help others?

Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
Evan, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.

Your ability to express yourself has shown both strengths and areas where you can develop further. You've had instances of clear communication such as when you asked, "What's your favorite holiday?" indicating that you can frame questions effectively. Nonetheless, sometimes your contributions, like "Medium," come across as incomplete or unclear. This is a continued pattern as previously, you've conveyed thoughts in a concise manner, yet at times, lacked detailed context. To support your strength in being succinct, working on conveying your thoughts with a bit more structure and completion would be beneficial, ensuring that your peers are clear on your message and can engage with it fully.

In terms of engagement with your peers, you previously acknowledged a teammate's idea, displaying good listening skills. However, the effectiveness of your active involvement has fluctuated. While you displayed listening by reacting to a peer's mention of sushi with, "Well, I like sushi and I like Japanese food. It's so tasty," your responses like "Yeah" sometimes lacked depth. Endeavor to build upon what's been said by others more frequently, as reflecting on or adding to the discussion can enrich the conversation and demonstrate that you value their contributions.

Lastly, while you maintain a consistent presence in the discussions, the tone and depth of your engagement could be fine-tuned. Your pragmatic comments, for instance, "I think we'll be cut down art because art doesn't do anything," show your willingness to make decisive statements, although they could benefit from considering the diverse opinions of the group. In the future, aiming to create a balance by being both practical and receptive to other perspectives will not only make others feel heard but will also provide a more supportive environment for inclusive discussions. Balancing frankness with sensitivity to others' views will help you connect with your teammates on a deeper level.

Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. We look forward to seeing you at future Discussion Sessions and we¡¯ll continue giving you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice.
