Hi Andrew,

On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion Sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways. Last week, you discussed the tension between ambition and personal compromise. What would you be willing to sacrifice for success?

Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
Andrew, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.

You have consistently shown the ability to initiate group discussions, evidenced by your clear opening statement, "Okay, you're a scientist working on a project to cure rare disease...How much time are you willing to sacrifice?" This showcases your strength in starting conversations and stimulating thought among your peers. However, a recurring suggestion from the previous sessions is to enhance the flow by avoiding repetition and ensuring your points are fully developed. For example, your repeated assertion "You get more money to actually replace your required title fund" could be more concise and avoid over-emphasizing a single aspect of the discussion. Continuing to refine this will help maintain the group¡¯s interest and allow for more dynamic exchanges.

In terms of engaging with your teammates' ideas, you consistently affirm what others have said, such as "Yeah, that's amazing." This indicates that you are attentive to their contributions. Yet, we've noted before and still observe that expanding beyond simple affirmations to offer deeper reflections on your peers' points could enrich the conversation. An example is your expressive¡ªbut brief¡ªacknowledgment "Yeah, that's more like playing the whole team." Fostering more elaborate discussions by elaborating on your agreements or disagreements will show a greater level of active participation.

Despite your consistent contributions, a pattern of missed opportunities for effective questioning persists. Previous analyses have highlighted this, and it remains an area for growth as seen from your interactions, with a lack of questions that prompt deeper thinking, such as during the retirement funds discussion. Additionally, while there are instances where you respond appropriately, there's potential for you to adopt a more empathic approach by addressing the feelings and perspectives of your teammates. By increasing the depth and frequency of your questions, you can steer the group toward more meaningful exploration of the topics at hand, thereby enriching the conversation for everyone involved.

Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. We look forward to seeing you at future Discussion Sessions and we¡¯ll continue giving you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice.
