Hi Evan,

On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion Sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways. Last week, you explored the trade-offs between immediate benefits and long-term advantages and how decisions today can shape the world of tomorrow.

Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
Evan, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.

In your recent discussions, you've shown the ability to make clear statements but still face challenges with clarity and providing enough information. For example, while you made an interesting remark, "The storm is storming, the storm is destroying the storm," the repetition and lack of context left the purpose of your statement unclear. Comparing this to a previous instance, you've had similar difficulties with being succinct yet comprehensive. You can improve your peers' understanding of your inputs by adding more details and sticking to the topic at hand. Your growth can be measured by your ability to offer more rounded contributions that leave less room for ambiguity, like when you previously framed a good question: "What's your favorite holiday?"

Engagement with your teammates has shown a willingness to participate, but the effectiveness of your active involvement is inconsistent. You've reacted to comments with phrases such as "Technology. Technology." yet this response seemed disconnected from the conversation. At another point, you followed a teammate's comment with a fragmented, "What? What's your favorite synthesis? Oh wait, batteries not included," which indicates some involvement but suggests you were not fully engaged. Your efforts to actively engage are commendable, but embracing deeper and more thoughtful responses will showcase a greater appreciation for your teammates' ideas. This is a step forward compared to prior sessions where responses like "Yeah" or "Medium" showcased a similar trend, and progress will be seen as your actions reflect that you are listening and understanding the flow of the conversation more deeply.

Your tone and the way you interact with your peers reflect a base level of empathy and a willingness to participate in the conversation. For example, when connecting with a teammate by saying, "Yeah, it's like actually really fun," you demonstrated the potential for empathetic communication. However, there's room to show a deeper level of understanding and consideration. Much like prior sessions when you made decisive, yet perhaps insensitive, remarks about the value of art, you'll benefit from practicing more nuanced expressions that value others' perspectives and experiences. By mindfully acknowledging your peers' viewpoints with more depth and sincerity, you can foster a more inclusive environment and enrich your collaborative efforts.

Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. We look forward to seeing you at future Discussion Sessions and we¡¯ll continue giving you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice.
