Hi David,

On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion Sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways. Last week, you considered the question: 'Who is responsible?' From missed shots in sports, to the success of startups, to ensuring public safety, does responsibility fall on the individual, the leader, or the whole team? In each scenario, one of the options is ¡°you¡± ¡ª the student. How often did they choose to take responsibility? No right or wrong answers, just interesting conversations with kids from around the world.

Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
David, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.

Your ability to add content to conversations is impressive, as you often provide substantive information that contributes to the group¡¯s understanding. Yet, it would benefit you to keep in mind the importance of staying on topic and expressing thoughts more concisely to maintain the group's focus. We noticed comments like "Yeah, it's like my computer" which, while they may relate to your personal experience, might not directly advance the group conversation and could lead to distractions.

Listening is clearly a strength of yours, evidenced by your responsiveness to peers' remarks and your suggestions that align with the conversation. This shows a good understanding of the topics at hand and a willingness to collaborate with your teammates. To further improve, consider how you might show a deeper level of acknowledgment when reacting to others' contributions. And while your engagement through questions such as "Who is responsible for keeping the discussion going or involving everyone?" is adept at encouraging critical thinking, there is an opportunity for growth in the area of empathetic engagement with others' perspectives.

Reflecting on your previous sessions, you've maintained your inquisitive nature which helps to drive group discussions forward. Yet, compared to past sessions where you've integrated others¡¯ viewpoints effectively, such as in your observation about the growth of trees, it appears there's room to more consistently incorporate empathy and consider your teammates¡¯ perspectives in your responses. By building upon your active listening and questioning skills with a heightened focus on genuine understanding and respect for others¡¯ inputs, you can further enhance your communication and foster even more meaningful conversations within your group.

Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. We look forward to seeing you at future Discussion Sessions and we¡¯ll continue giving you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice.
