Hi Evan,

On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion Sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways. Last week, we challenged you to find the root of the issues. Rather than taking a position on a scenario, students decided on the essential question at the heart of each one. No right or wrong answers, just interesting conversations with kids from around the world.

Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
Evan, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.

Regarding how you share your ideas, there is a noted need for improvement in expressing yourself clearly and accurately. For example, you often use brief and unclear responses such as "What?" and "Uh...," which can lead to confusion among your peers. On occasion, however, you do demonstrate the ability to be direct, as evidenced by your statement, "Yeah, responsibility," which is straightforward and easy to understand. To enhance your participation, it would be beneficial to elaborate on your thoughts with a bit more detail which would help clarify your points for others.

When it comes to active listening and engaging with your peers, ensuring that you stay focused on the main discussion and avoid introducing unrelated comments is an area of growth for you. It would be beneficial to maintain a more cohesive and streamlined discussion by sticking to the topic at hand. We encourage you to delve deeper into the topics discussed by asking questions that enhance your understanding and contribute effectively. As seen in previous sessions, you have the skill to ask relevant questions. Building on this skill will help you engage more constructively in conversations.

Lastly, your ability to empathize and understand others' perspectives also has room for growth. Responses such as "Are you kidding?" can come across as confrontational. To foster a more collaborative environment, you could work on developing more thoughtful and considerate responses when engaging with your peers' ideas. This, coupled with more in-depth questions and engaged listening, will not only show your understanding but also enhance the overall conversation with your teammates. Overall, while there are areas for development, the steps you can take to deepen your involvement and clarity in discussions are well within your reach. Keep striving to express yourself more comprehensively and interact positively with the group.

Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. We look forward to seeing you at future Discussion Sessions and we¡¯ll continue giving you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice.
