Hi Kally,
On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion Sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways. Last week, we challenged you to find the
root of the issues. Rather than taking a position on a scenario, students decided on the essential question at the heart of each one. No right or wrong answers, just interesting conversations with kids from around the world.
Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
Kally, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.
In terms of expressing yourself clearly and keeping your contributions succinct, you have shown considerable skill. For example, in the second session, you posed the question, "If you were the leader of your country for one day, what would you do?" which was both clear and direct, facilitating a focused discussion. Contrastingly, during the first session, there were moments where your clarity faltered with phrases like "Hmm," which could potentially lead to confusion. To strengthen your communication, focusing on maintaining the clarity and directness you exhibit in your best moments will be beneficial. Additionally, your ability to tie your questions back to the broader discussion effectively keeps the conversation organized and on-topic.
Your engagement and responsiveness to your peers also came across strongly. You frequently used questions to delve deeper into discussions, as seen with "Is human safety more important than discovery? Why or why not?" This not only demonstrates your active listening skills but also your ability to use inquiries to explore complex ideas, encouraging a rich discussion. Moreover, your acknowledgment of other participants' inputs, exemplified by "It's a great question," helps create an inclusive environment where all viewpoints are valued. However, at times, further development in your responses could enrich the dialogue even more, ensuring that all your contributions are as impactful as they have the potential to be.
On the front of empathy and perspective-taking, you have shown signs of considering the broader implications of scenarios and soliciting diverse viewpoints, thus fostering a thoughtful discussion atmosphere. For instance, when discussing the potential consequences of space travel, you highlighted the importance of courage, which shows a keen ability to connect personal traits with broader challenges. To continue improving, making a consistent effort to understand and integrate other perspectives into your contributions will enhance the quality of interactions further. This approach not only aids in deepening your understanding but also enriches the collective experience of the group discussions.
Your ongoing development in these areas indicates a strong trajectory in your communication skills, Kally. By focusing on consistent clarity, deeper responses, and expanded perspective-taking, you will continue to enhance your effectiveness in discussions.
Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. We look forward to seeing you at future Discussion Sessions and we¡¯ll continue giving you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice.
