Hi Lufei,

On the journey to make any team you¡¯re on better, you¡¯ll practice how to effectively communicate with everyone. Our Discussion Sessions are carefully designed to provide opportunities for you to practice these critical communication skills in various ways. Last week, you practiced examining two sides of an idea: the point and the counterpoint. Good thinkers weigh counterpoints to their own ideas to make sure that all sides are considered. Did your points hold up to their counterpoints? No right or wrong answers, just interesting conversations with kids from around the world.

Here¡¯s some feedback on how you used your voice in the Discussion Sessions you attended:

Communication Analysis
Lufei, during the recent Discussion sessions we made some observations we would like to share with you about your communication abilities.

Firstly, your clarity in expressing thoughts has seen some consistency, but also presents an area for improvement. For instance, comments like "No, no, what?" demonstrate responsiveness in conversation but lack the detail needed for full clarity. This mirrors a previous trend where you were advised to add more explanation to your thoughts. An improvement could be achieved by expanding on your initial reactions with more descriptive information or reasoning. This step will likely enhance group understanding and the overall quality of discussions you are involved in.

In terms of engagement with what your teammates share in discussions, you show a foundational level of active listening, as observed in your acknowledgment, "Yeah, that makes sense,¡± in response to a peer's comment. This is a step up from previous sessions where engagement mostly showed through simpler affirmations. However, to further your contribution to the discourse, consider deepening your responses. For example, explain why you agree or share a related insight, adding layers to your interaction. Complementing this effort with more questions to your peers can also fuel richer dialogue, moving from mere participation to a more persuasive presence in discussions.

Lastly, your empathetic engagement could see further enhancement. While your dialogue sometimes reflects personal insights which help connect with the group, more consistent recognition of others¡¯ emotional states or viewpoints could elevate your role. Previously, you were encouraged to ask more about others' experiences to foster empathy. Building on this by frequently initiating questions that explore your teammates' perspectives and emotional responses will not only show your interest and respect for their contributions but also enhance group cohesion and understanding. Each of these steps can lead towards a more nuanced and effective communication style in your future discussions.

Anyone who knows how to make any team they¡¯re on better is able to keep improving their skills and correcting their errors. We look forward to seeing you at future Discussion Sessions and we¡¯ll continue giving you feedback on how you¡¯ve progressed in using your voice.
