This week, Team Synthesis will guide students through effective practice techniques and a deep dive into the thought-provoking Fermi Paradox. In the Hyperball game, teams will practice to prepare for the real challenge, while in the discussion session, students will explore the possibility of alien life and engage in conversations with peers around the world.

“Practice makes perfect.” It’s a common saying. But it’s not entirely accurate. In reality, how we practice matters. Are we focused? Or absent-minded? Is our purpose to improve? Or to pass time? In other words, how do we “perfect” our practice? That’s our theme this week. For the Hyperball Trophy, teams will play each map twice: the first time is practice; the second time counts. How will teams use that practice game? Will they lay out a strategy to optimize in the second game? Or will they play a fake game to throw their observant opponents off their trail?

费米悖论 | The Fermi Paradox

The topic of this week’s conversation was selected for a follow-up by 289 students last month. That topic: The Fermi Paradox. In brief, the Fermi Paradox says, “If intelligent alien life is likely to exist somewhere in the vast universe… why haven’t we observed any evidence of it?” The scenarios this week dive deeper into the search for extraterrestrial life, including what message humans might send, what impacts alien discovery might have, and even what defines “life” itself. No right or wrong answers, just interesting conversations with kids from around the world.
