This week, children will embark on a learning journey full of challenges and fun. In the multiplication and division unit, the “Factor Faceoff” game combines multiplication practice with competitive strategy perfectly. Children go head-to-head with the tutor, enhancing their multiplication knowledge and strategic thinking. The “Proxima” game is like space exploration, concerning risks and trade-offs, simulating the challenges humans face in becoming an interplanetary species and training children’s risk analysis and team alignment abilities. In addition, the “Deep Space” discussion leads children to think about problems they usually don’t consider, broadening their future problem-solving capacity.

比邻星 | Proxima

Like space exploration itself, Proxima is a game about risk, a game about tradeoffs. Teams that focus on long-term gains may miss short-term opportunities. And vice versa. Teams that adapt to each new development may lose out to the steadfast strategies. And vice versa. In short, Proxima isn’t so much a “game” as it is a simulation of the challenge humans face in becoming an interplanetary species: there is no one singular path, only a thousand branching decisions. The good news? Practicing under these conditions now means your student will be comfortable later, when the rockets on the screen become rockets in reality.

深空 | Deep Space

Why are adults and kids alike drawn to outer space? One reason could be the allure of the unknown: Earth problems are complex, of course, but they are also often “known knowns.” Deep space, on the other hand, include the “unknown unknowns” that capture our collective imagination. This week, six scenarios walk students though a deep space mission, from planning and preparation, to food and communication. The point? To practice thinking through the problems kids don’t usually consider; and in doing so, widen their future problem-solving capacity. Commencing countdown. Engines on.
