Last week’s Hyperball Trophy was won by “Unnamed Planet Y,” which will be unnamed no longer. Students in this house will vote to name it during this week’s sessions (see video for more).
In April, all houses will get their official names, chosen by students, to give them ownership of their community. To balance the fast pace and quick pivots of Hyperball, this week’s game is Polis, the game of resource management and city-building. The thinking required is more deliberate, and the game takes longer to unfold. After all, life’s problems don’t come in a standard size, and neither do Synthesis experiences.

Polis simulates real-life challenges that require managing extensive information. In this week’s Discussion session, students will be intentionally exposed to “information overload” in order to observe the impact on their decision-making processes. The exercise begins with straightforward scenarios, such as deciding whether to purchase a car, and progressively introduces additional layers of complexity.
As in Polis and in life, teams will have to evaluate and organize information to arrive at an optimal decision.
