ASU 2023-2024

Welcome Sun Devil Scholars and Families,

New Student Orientation

Ms. Cartar

New Student Orientation

All 6th grade and new to middle school students will participate in New Student Orientation (NSO).   This opportunity allows students to work with ASUPD’s systems and learn processes and procedures that are used in Middle School.  Students will learn the logistics in working with ClassLink, Canvas, and other programs.  Students and LSCs will meet each morning at 9AM AZT for a one-hour live lesson.  Students will then be assigned tasks to complete each day to help prepare for the upcoming school year.  Participation in the lessons and completion of the tasks are required prior to the 1st day of school.

More details will be shared with your Learning Success Coach during your first Individual Learning Conference (ILC).

Family Orientation

The Learning Success Coach team will be sharing a Family Orientation video with families this Friday, outlining important information for the Fall Semester.  We will also hold a Question/Answer Session on Wednesday, Aug. 2nd at 4:00 PM AZT. This is also an opportunity for families to ask questions relating to NSO, the start of the school year, or any others you may have!

Individual Learning Conferences

Individual Learning Conferences are held with students, families, and LSCs to meet and plan your child’s fall academic courses, elective options, and goals. This is also a great time for us to talk about ways to support your child during the upcoming school year.  The conference is about 30 minutes. In preparation for the ILC, families may review the course descriptions on our website.   During the ILC, we will discuss the transition to middle school and live lesson schedules, pacing, acceleration, support, attendance, communication, and involvement.   I will also answer any questions you have about the transition to middle school!

Please use my Calendly link to schedule a time that works for you and your child (we ask that both attend). If you need a different day and time, please let me know. I am happy to accommodate your schedule.

Fall Electives

We will discuss elective options for all students during the ILC.  However, you can preview the courses that will be available for the 23-24 school year.  Families may review the course descriptions on our website: https://www.asuprepdigital.org/k-12-catalog/.    (Clicking on the filters at the top will allow you to narrow the options.) If you want to confirm your child’s courses, please contact me and we can verify they are scheduled into the correct course.

Classlink (Login)

ASUPD will continue to use the single-sign on system, ClassLink.   The student login link is student.asuprep.org. It may help to bookmark this link in your browser as students will use it every day to login to your classes.

Returning students: Students will use the same login/password credential information from last school year.  If you do not have this information or need to reset your password prior to the start of school, please reach out to me or support@asuprep.org and we will be happy to help.

New students: New students will be provided initial login details a week before the fall semester begins.  Students will be provided support and information during New Student Orientation on how to login and access apps available in Classlink.  If you’re interested in learning more prior to NSO, you may review the links below.

  • Click here to learn more about the Classlink login process!
  • Click here for a video tutorial on the Classlink login process.

Canvas

Canvas is the Learning Management System that houses student courses, current grades, and communication platforms between students and teachers. Canvas makes it possible to access assignments, discussions, quizzes, and grades via your laptop, desktop, phone, and/or tablet.

The Canvas Family/Parent Observer account allows families/parents to monitor grades, assignment submissions, and teacher feedback.  Click Here for directions on setting up this account.  Please reach out to your LSC if you have any additional questions.

Parent Resources

I will be reaching out in the coming days to introduce myself and answer any questions you may have about the upcoming school year.

I appreciate all you do to support your child in this journey and am looking forward to meeting you during the ILC and working with you and your family throughout the school year.

Wishing you well,

Learning Success Coach

I am so excited to be your LSC and am looking forward to this school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I will be your biggest cheer leader this school year.

I live in both Tallahassee, FL and Flagstaff, AZ – splitting my time between locations. I earned my master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of West Florida and my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Florida State University. Prior to coming to ASUPD, I was an elementary and middle school math teacher for 15 years and an assistant principal for 6 years. I have a very strong passion for building relationships with my students and focusing on student success. When I’m not working, you can find me watching sports (I’m a little crazy when it comes to my teams!), traveling, hiking, or riding in my Jeep.

I am very excited about the start of the school year. There are a lot of exciting events planned and ways to support our newest Sun Devils and families!
